Richard Wedekind is one of the most original artists at Sculpture OnShore, and his Quarter-acre Weatherboard Paradise is one of his most clever works. It’s a commentary on the Kiwi dream of owning a weatherboard-clad house on a quarter-acre section at the expense of urban sprawl spilling over the New Zealand countryside and along its magnificent coastline. The red weatherboard-clad man is no longer part of the environment, but is the environment. So true, and he’s been placed in the perfect position to make the point.
