Sandals have pulled out of Tobago. What drove them to do that? Their explanation of persistent negative publicity doesn’t ring true. The challenge of building an 820 room resort and golf course in a protected wetland may well have been what ruined Dr Rowley’s score. Click on the newspaper image below to see parts 1-7 of my Express investigation into Sandals’ Buccoo adventure. (Part 6, The Map That Sold Sandals, has two versions for easier reading). Maps, which have caused Sandals so much grief, are also included below, one of which details the Sandals resort’s proposed location on an earthquake fault line.

  1. Thank you for the photo you have as your “landing page”. It brings back childhood memories of Bucco Bay where I spent many of the best times of my life.

  2. Thanks for the comment, Nigel. It’s a special place alright. Sandals did indeed pull out because of bad publicity, as their plan was appalling and the taxpayer was going to have to pay every last cent!
