“In Search of Barebottomed Land”, by Christian Nicholson, was the most striking of the sculptures on show at the bi-annual Sculpture On The Shore exhibition in 2010. Nothing could really compare with the sight of a 20ft-plus naked man towering above the trees, looking out to sea. He certainly drew the biggest audiences. The show, held at the scenic Fort Takapuna reserve by the sea on Auckland’s North Shore, boasts a fascinating collection of the wacky, weird and wonderful and is one of our favorite events; not least because of the excellent opportunities it affords to take photographs of people in strange and bizarre contexts, and I’ll post some more from these shows at a later date. Barebottomed man, though, takes some beating.
