Street, candid, reportage, call it what you will, but it’s a genre of photography I am find myself more and more drawn to. This is partly due to the influence of some of my contacts on Flickr who have shown the way, and partly because I was given a book of Henri Cartier-Bresson photographs which I have found truly inspirational. Street/candid photography demands you weigh up a situation instantly, compose and shoot fast, hopefully without being detected by the subject. It can make for quite an adrenalin rush, quite a lot of misses — especially if shooting from the hip — and enormous satisfaction when it comes off. I tend use my Canon 50mm f1.4 lens almost exclusively for this as it quick and relatively unobstusive.
